Hello ,
June tastes, smells and feels like summer to me.
There is a lightness in the air.
I get a bit nostalgic this time of year.
Recently a member asked me how I show up to my mindfulness practice. I have further reflected on this questions and wanted to share my thoughts.
1. With grace, continually letting go of self judgement labels of good/bad, right/wrong and attachment to outcome.
2. I like to begin my day with breath work and meditation, because it reminds my parasympathetic nervous system to join me for the day AND if I do not do it in the morning, I typically do not make time later in the day.
3. 20-30 minute practice is my sweet spot, but 5 or 10 minutes resets me.
4. I lay out my yoga mat and blocks to sit on the night before
5. I repeat the same guided practice for many days in a row and have it bookmarked on my computer (removing all decision points and things to distract me from doing what I intend)
6. Show up, sit, practice, done......
Separating planning and execution really helps! Meaning setting everything up the night before to plan for my morning. Removing any decision making from the morning so that there is no wiggle room to distract from my intention to show up to my practice.
Some practices are deep and I feel settled, others my brain is spinning and playing in the past and future, some I get up midway due to distraction, others I crave more. The nectar is in the showing up.
For me doing a daily practice is a game changer and as I recently shared, I don't really notice until I don't show up and on those days I feel more scattered, more anxious and overwhelmed. That is not to say I don't experience overwhelm, anxiety and scattered thoughts on the days I practice, but I definitely notice that it feels more manageable and I feel more present to my choices.
What supports you to show up to your mindfulness practice?
Joyfully and in FULL COLOR!
