Hello ,

"Courage is the root of change – and change is what we're chemically designed to do." ~ Lesson's in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus

I read the book this past summer, and just finished the mini series.  Both are fantastic!

Let's get an ISH book list going to share with each other.

LEARNING

With the holiday season upon us, stress can be at an all time high.

So this month, I’ll be sharing a series on stress, stress hormones, and tips for building stress resilience.

Enjoy!

📰 In the News

Neuroscientists at the University of California Santa Barbara have documented brain-wide structural changes that correlate with the hormone fluctuations across the menstrual cycle.

Wow. 🤯

This is amazing because it might help to explain why cycling females notice changes in their mood and mental function at different times of the month.

The study is not yet peer reviewed, but you can read a summary of it here.

💡Pro Health Tip

When it comes to stress, did you know the foods we eat can make a difference?

That’s because skipping meals or eating refined sugars sends a stress signal to the body.

(which your hormones respond to just the same as if you were facing a saber-toothed tiger!)

So, here’s how I eat to combat stress:

Just remember that blood sugar swings = stress.

🔍 Did You Know?

When your body faces a stressful situation, it triggers the release of 2 key stress hormones:

Cortisol & Adrenaline (Epinephrine).

If you want to take steps to manage stress better, it helps to first understand these hormones.

The main thing to know is that adrenaline is fast acting (think “fight or flight!”), whereas cortisol has longer term effects.

That means that cortisol is the hormone that can wreak the most havoc over time.

Watch my upcoming emails or follow ISH on Instagram because I’ll be going into everything you need to know about cortisol and breaking the cycle of stress!
