Happy January!
The anticipation of a new year can feel like a fresh start and is a wonderful time to reflect on our health and opportunities to elevate our health and life by choosing to live life on purpose!
Health is not only about eating nutritious foods and moving our bodies. It’s also about self-curiosity and mastery on other levels, including our minds.
Beliefs → influence thoughts → influence behaviors → influence results.
The power of thought has profound effects on health outcomes. Visualization (seeing, feeling and sensing yourself in a new way) is one way to practice this, by visualizing yourself realizing the change you want to create you are creating neural pathways to move you in the direction of your desired change. Athletes have been doing this with success for years.
I’ll be sharing more on the topic of mindset (growth vs fixed) this month on Instagram, but for now I hope you enjoy this month’s highlights of news, inspiration, and tips!

Estrogen found NOT to promote weight gain
|
The fear of gaining weight is one of the main reasons women often hesitant to take estrogen in any form—whether it’s for contraception, peri menopause or post menopause...
Is the fear valid?

A recent report found that estrogen taken as the pill or as hormone replacement at
menopause INCREASED metabolism—suggesting it may actually protect against weight gain.
|
|
|
I’m not suggesting women should take estrogen to lose weight, but information is power. I have been in practice as a Physician Assistant since 1997 both in the conventional and integrative health sectors. During this time research, data and standard of care
to support women with hormone therapy has changed dramatically. The human body and physiologic mechanisms have not changed but how we interpret the data and options for support continue to evolve.
The better we understand these mechanisms, the more informed choices we can make. My quest for learning and understanding is ongoing, leading with curiosity and always trusting the human body knows how to thrive when barriers are removed and support is offered.

Your Mindset Can Affect Your Health

When Stanford psychologist, Carol Dweck, first started to research mindsets, she found that different mindsets translated into different performance in school.
She called these the Growth Mindset (believing you can learn and change) and Fixed Mindset (believing you are inherently smart or not).
|

|
These mindsets not only affect schoolwork but everything in life!
When we believe our bodies and brains can change, we are more motivated to better ourselves, whether that’s through what we eat, how we move, or choices we make.
