Hello ,

"The ability to simplify means to eliminate the unnecessary so that the necessary may speak"  ~ Hans Hofmann

Where can you simplify?

What are you doing that is unnecessary?

Taking inventory of your "doing" is an important piece of healing AND thriving.  Cognitive load (relates to the amount of information that working memory can hold at one time) is REAL.  All the things you are carrying in your memory take up space.

Examples:

to do's for work

Send the sympathy card to friend

feed the pets

partners birthday coming up

pay bills

order supplements

meal plan

making decisions

travel plans

call a friend

return a text/email

what workout should I do

what is for dinner

on and on.......

Where can you add systems to automate things to reduce the load?

What can you delegate?

Where can you reduce the load you are carrying?

Be ruthless with releasing the unnecessary!

Create S P A C E !

Be kind, take care of each one another,

LEARNING

📰 In the News

A recent review of 42 studies, published in JAMA Dermatology, found the top nutrients to support clear skin in acne-prone individuals:

  • The highest quality studies showed potential benefits from vitamin D, green tea extract, and probiotics

  • Other studies suggested benefits from vitamin B5, omega-3 fatty acids, and gamma linoleic acid

  • Zinc was the most commonly studied nutrient, but it only showed benefit in half the studies. Higher doses were more helpful but were also associated with adverse effects.

This review is limited by only looking at supplements rather than foods and dietary patterns, but it’s good evidence that nutrients can make a difference for skin health!  In my opinion, what is happening on your skin is a picture of what is going on with your physiology and more specifically the health of your gut.  This is why true healing of skin problems often has to do with deeper healing from the inside out!

💡Pro Health Tip

I’ve been talking a lot about mindset this month, and one of the most common questions coming up is:

How do I change/shift my mindset?

There are lots of ways to go about this, but one science-backed way is through meditation

Research shows that meditation changes the brain to:

✔️ Calm the amygdala (an emotional center of the brain)

✔️ Reduce anxiety

✔️ Manage eating behaviors

✔️ Increase pain tolerance

✔️ Improve sleep

✔️ Relieve stress

If you’re meditation-curious, you can dip your toe in (just 5 minutes a day!) with an app like HeadSpace or Calm.

🔍 Did You Know?

There’s a concept in psychology called “external locus of control” vs. “internal locus of control.”

One way to think about this is to ask yourself which do you believe to be more true:

“I’ll get better when I find the right diet, pill, or miracle treatment.”

Or…

“I’ll get better when I make changes in my beliefs, habits, and lifestyle.”

There is no right or wrong answer—these are just different mindsets.  Your beliefs influence the types of therapies you seek out and probably even the results you get.

I invite you to think about this as you move through your week.  Notice your locus of control in different situations.  How do you feel with each type?  Awareness is curative!
