Hello ,

“Our life is the sum of our choices.”  Albert Camus

This really landed for me this past week.  I find it fascinating that each of us brings a different set of experiences and life and health events to each moment.  The power in choice is profound!  Keep things light, all choices are information, even the "bad" choices provide opportunity!

My sister is such a treasure in my life!  She offers daily nuggets of truth and opportunity through music and learnings.  This past week she shared this fabulous podcast episode with Danielle LaPorte 19 Questions for Nourishment.  Danielle poses this very important question, What is your relationship to what nourishes you?

Have a listen, and EASE on in to your weekend.

Harness and spread kindness on your journey,

~ Lynn 🌈

LEARNING

February is Heart Health Month, so I’ll be sharing some news and tips to help keep your heart in top condition as well as a series on the vagus nerve.

I hope these emails keep you always moving toward your highest level of wellness and abundance.

Enjoy!

📰 In the News

A recent study in the Journal of the American Heart Association found that if your partner has high blood pressure, you are more likely to have it too.

Heart disease is the #1 cause of death for men, women, and most racial and ethnic groups in the US, and blood pressure is one of the biggest risk factors.

I like to expand the lens on heart health to a more inclusive view, cardioMETABOLIC health.  This encompasses not just the cardiovascular (heart and vessels) system but the cardio-metabolic (heart, blood sugar, hormones, vessels, immune system, gut health) 🤔😍

What does this expanded lens look like?

The cellular connection of all systems.  This dysfunction is at a cellular level driven by inflammation and disrupted mitochondria (powerhouses of the cell).

Maybe we should take this as a reminder to commit to some heart-healthy activities with the people closest to us in our lives.

💡Pro Health Tip

Eating with the seasons is a great way to support local growers and consume the freshest produce.

This can feel tricky in the middle of winter, but this time of year cruciferous vegetables are a great option!

Foods like broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, and kale are rich in antioxidants and other nutrients that support detoxification, hormones, and more.

Want to learn more about what foods are in season near you?

The Seasonal Food Guide is a fun tool that can tell you what produce is in season.

🔍 Did You Know?

The vagus nerve is the main nerve of the parasympathetic nervous system (the part of our nervous system that helps us “rest and digest”). It wanders from the brain to all the organs, branching off with thousands of nerve fibers.

What’s really cool is the vagus nerve communicates in both directions—both to and from the brain!

We refer to the activity of the vagus nerve as “vagal tone,” which is linked with heart health, metabolic health, mood, digestion, healthy aging, and more.

Watch for my upcoming emails for some tips to improve vagal tone!

Speaking of vagal toning.....I am excited to announce that ISH will soon be offering GammaCore treatments to support the vagus nerve! Currently FDA approved for Migraine and Cluster headaches.  Research is expanding to all areas, benefits for PTSD, Head Trauma, Chronic illness, Chronic Constipation, Anxiety, Depression and more!
