I was reminded today just how important starting your day with natural light is to the health of your WHOLE system.  I was digging into the nitty gritty and sciencey stuff of why, through the central retinal hypothalamic pathway, which I wont bore you with now.  


AND I will share with you this invitation


Avoid artificial light first thing in the morning 

Let the first light be the sun, daylight and even better sunrise 🌅


"But I wake when it is dark", you say (me too).  


Invitation:

Avoid putting lights on, light a candle instead, avoid the tug to look at your phone or computer, sit in quiet, listen and let your body ease into the day.  When the sun begins to rise, go outside and let the light in.


Try this for a few days to a week and notice if you are sleeping better.  This is a powerful way to reboot your whole system health!


Rest well and ease on in to your weekend,

📰 In the News

Looking at a national sample of adults in the US, new research compared berry consumption with mortality rates over 8 years. 


Results showed that people who were considered “berry consumers” had a 21% lower risk of all-cause mortality than “non-berry consumers.” 


Berries are a rich source of antioxidants and also contain fiber, vitamins, and minerals that support health!

Just by mindful eating? 


Y'all know this is one of my favorite tips!  It truly is low hanging fruit, free and available to us ALL!


I’m not saying it’s easy (it will take some practice), but here are some tips:


  • Block off plenty of time to eat when you won’t be distracted (at least 20 minutes)

  • Set your phone aside and turn off notifications

  • Take small bites, chew thoroughly, and focus on enjoying the food

  • Check in with yourself to notice when you feel full


Sometimes we get caught up in the latest trends and flashy ways to improve our health, but focusing on the basics is often even more powerful.

🔍 Did You Know?

Food sensitivities are not always an isolated issue. Many times there are underlying things that can be making them worse. 


Research has linked food sensitivities to changes in the gut microbiome, intestinal permeability (also called “leaky gut”), and gut inflammation. 


This is why I do not typically begin with food sensitivity testing, it truly is not that simple.  Often times just by calming down inflammation, gut lining support and supporting your autonomic nervous system people can tolerate food they were initially having trouble with. 


This is why we always take a whole-person approach!
