Hello ,
Hello Summer!
Shapeshifting more PEP, Playful Expansive Pleasure, into your moments.
It is a neurobiological fact that we are ALLWays creating something both consciously and unconsciously. Â
What if that something was pleasure or better yet more PEP? Â
Think about this, what are your moment to moment choices creating?
PEP - Let's break it down with some basic definitionsÂ
Play - engage in activity for enJOYment and recreation rather than a serious or practical purpose
Expand - become or make larger or more extensive.
Pleasure - a feeling of happy satisfaction and enJOYment.
Recently, I shared a workshop on PEP and in preparation took a deeper look at pleasure and of course like many things this created more questions then answers!
What is pleasure? Â
What is the neurobiology of pleasure?
What is the pleasure / pain relationship?Â
And why neuro-chemically do we need both?
What is the role of dopamine and pleasure?
From Wikipedia:
Pleasure is experience that feels good, that involves the enjoyment of something. It contrasts with pain or suffering, which are forms of feeling bad.Â
It is closely related to value, desire and action: humans and other conscious animals find pleasure enjoyable, positive or worthy of seeking.Â
A great variety of activities may be experienced as pleasurable, like eating, sex, listening to music, or playing games.
Pleasure is part of various other mental states such as ecstacy, euphoria and flow.
Happiness and well-being  are closely related to pleasure but not identical with it.
There is no general agreement as to whether pleasure should be understood as a sensation, a quality of experiences, an attitude to experiences or otherwise.
Now for you.......
How do you define pleasure?
Set your timer 15 min and let go journal all ways you experience pleasure.
What is one simple thing you can do to invite more pleasure in your moments?
Curious for more check out Anna Lembke's book, Dopamine Nation or her short youtube on pain and pleasure HERE.
