Hello ,
ISH is currently closed, I leave with Mary Oliver's words of wisdom......
Wild Geese
You do not have to be good.
You do not have to walk on your knees for a hundred miles through the desert repenting.
You only have to let the soft animal of your body love what it loves.
Tell me about despair, yours, and I will tell you mine.
Meanwhile the world goes on.
Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the rain are moving across the landscapes, over the prairies and the deep trees, the mountains and the rivers.
Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air, are heading home again.
Whoever you are, no matter how lonely, the world offers itself to your imagination, calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting -over and over announcing your place in the family of things.
~ Mary Oliver
Nourish your soul with all that lights you up,
~ Lynn 🌈

Most people focus on cardio and strength training to get the health benefits of exercise, but a 2023 study (and an earlier 2020 study) showed that stretching is uniquely associated with a lower risk of all-cause mortality.
The most recent study found that Korean adults who did flexibility exercises at least 5 times a week had a 20% lower risk of dying during the follow-up period than those who didn't stretch at all.
Stretching has been shown to strengthen muscles, improve performance, reduce injuries, and benefit the health of the arteries! |

💡Pro Health Tip |

Bloating is one of the most common gut problems people come to me with, so here are some general guidelines to consider to reduce the bloat:
1️⃣ Minimize trigger foods (common triggers are sugar, alcohol, carbonated drinks, artificial sweeteners, cruciferous vegetables, & beans)
2️⃣ Stay hydrated and gradually increase fiber to ensure regular bowel movements (constipation can cause bloating, but so can too much fiber too fast)
3️⃣ Consider probiotics or probiotic-rich foods (this is not appropriate for everyone because it can make things worse for anyone who already has overgrowth of bacteria)
4️⃣ Take a walk or incorportate regular stretching exercies (movement can encourage healthy digestion)
5️⃣ Slow down (stress or eating on the run puts your nervous system alert, whereas calming your nervous system promotes healthy digestion) - Rest and Digest, our friend the parasympathetic nervous system. |

Bloating is not normal. If it doesn’t resolve with simple strategies like the ones above, it could be a sign of something else, such as:
▪️ Parasites
▪️ Low stomach acid
▪️ Gut motility issues
▪️ H.pylori overgrowth
▪️ Low digestive enzymes
▪️ Dysbiosis (disrupted gut microbiome)
▪️ Small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO)
▪️ Small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIFO)
▪️ Leaky gut (increased permeability)
This is not an exhaustive list! These are only the issues that are specific to the gut, but bloating can also be caused by 🌸hormones, 😩stress, or 🍷alcohol consumption.
The only way to solve a problem is to first find out what the problem actually is. This is something we excel at in naturopathic & functional medicine. |
