Have you heard the statement "where ever you go there you are"


Recently, I have been feeling the rush and chaos of the season and the events going on around me.  I have felt dysregulated and scattered.  


Ding Ding Ding...... 


I have not prioritized the practices that support my nervous system.  This is my choice point ALLways. Sometimes I choose INto ways that support how I want to feel EASE, HARMONY and JOY and sometimes I succumb to old patterns of "producing" and "urgency" which creates feelings of hurriedness and anxiousness.


The good news is we always have agency to regulate our internal sense and feeling.  It may not immediately shift us out of feeling dysregulated but I can say with certainty that it will support our physiology to move in the direction of a settled nervous system.  


It is easy to get caught up in the kinetic energy and accidentally bring this cloud of chaos into our daily life. 


If this time of year feels rushed or chaotic, consider the option to prune down your list of activities and causes to only the bare minimum. Not because you're withholding your care and concern, but rather that you need to harness your energy and remember the practices that support YOU.  Check out this simple handout with easy breath practices to sprinkle in your day.  


Give yourself permission to check in, change it up and be the caretaker of your time.

If you’re interested in a root-cause approach to health, we’re inevitably going to have to talk about the gut microbiome.  


Now researchers at Rutgers University have given us a new way to describe what they call the “Core Microbiome.” It includes:


1️⃣ The Foundation Guild, which are helpful bacteria that stabilize the gut.

 

2️⃣ The Pathobiont Guild, which are microbes that train the immune system but can cause issues if too dominant.


This doesn’t change our root-cause approach to care, where gut health is always part of the conversation, but it does give us a new and creative way to describe it!

Nutrition and supplements can be a helpful way to support immune function through the winter season. Not to be confused with “temporary support” products, which are meant to be taken when you’re feeling unwell, here are some “seasonal support” supplements for longer term immune resilience:


Reishi is rich in beta-glucans, which modulate immune function over time. Powdered reishi can be mixed into coffee or brewed as tea.  


Probiotics can be consumed as supplements or in fermented foods. Since 70%-80% of the body’s immune cells reside in the gut, probiotics are a powerful immune support.


Vitamin D deficiencies can increase the risk for falling sick or getting more severe infections. Especially during darker months, consuming enough vitamin D is essential for immune function.
