Hello ,

It can be easy to let it all go and "start in January".

I find that the BOTH AND can be a great way to approach the Holidays and choices that support feeling great!  BOTH inviting ease (loosening the reigns) AND intentionally choosing lifestyle tools that support you.

What 3 things will anchor you to your health goals and support feeling great that you will choose into over the next 2 weeks? (Grab a piece of paper and write them down now)

I will share mine

1. Yoga (roll out my mat and move 15 min a day)

2. Water with electrolytes 64 oz a day

3. Breath practice 5 min a day

The swirl of the holiday season can consume you or you can go with the flow, settle your system and anchor yourself to a few things that set you up for feeling the way you desire and keep you on course to what you say is important.

With EASE,

~ Lynn 🌈

LEARNING

πŸ“° In the News

If you’re looking for ways to manage hunger and food cravings, you’ll want to know about this new study from the University of Virginia that showed high-intensity exercise suppresses levels of the hunger hormone ghrelin more effectively than moderate exercise.

The effect was even more pronounced in women than in men.

Not everyone needs high-intensity exercise. We take a whole-body and individualized approach when it comes to exercise, hunger, and weight management. If you’re looking for support in these areas, we’d love to help.

πŸ’‘Pro Health Tip

Planning a holiday gathering? Serve up some of these seasonal superfoods!

  1. 🍊Citrus Fruits:  Create a festive citrus platter with sliced oranges and grapefruit (sprinkled with fresh mint) or serve up citrus-infused water.

  2. πŸ§…Garlic & Onions: Make a roasted garlic hummus dip or add caramelized onions to your charcuterie board.

  3. πŸ₯—Cranberries & Pomegranates: Make a holiday salad with mixed greens, toasted nuts, fresh pomegranate seeds, and dried or fresh cranberries. Or add a cranberry-pomegranate jelly to your cheese board.

  4. 🫚 Ginger & Turmeric: Brew up a pot of warming golden milk lattes or bake up some spicy ginger cookies.

Just rememberβ€”celebrations can be beautiful and special without taking a toll on anybody’s health!

πŸ” Did You Know?

Some herbs and supplements are backed by science to reduce either the duration or severity of temporary seasonal illness. Here’s what the latest research shows:

Studies show that elderberry probably does not prevent the common cold or flu, but it may shorten the duration or reduce the severity. Elderberry can be taken as a liquid juice concentrate or in capsules. (PMID 33827515)

There has been a lot of controversy around vitamin C, but a 2023 meta-analysis found that compared to placebo, vitamin C reduced the severity of the common cold by 15%. It may not shorten the duration of mild colds, but it may shorten severe colds. These stats are based on people who took at least 1 gram of vitamin C per day and who were healthy at baseline. (PMID 38082300)

A 2024 comprehensive review of 34 studies on zinc in relation to the common cold found all kinds of mixed results but in the end, it concluded that zinc supplements may not prevent colds but may reduce the duration of ongoing colds. Zinc can be taken as pills or lozenges. (PMID 38719213)

You could consider keeping these on hand in case you start to feel under the weather!
