February
2022

Hello Friends,

February is a transitional month, between winter and spring.  In Colorado, snow one day and 60 degrees the next!  I am getting antsy to get my hands in the dirt and plant some veggies but that is a bit risky this time of year!  In this month before the spring equinox, you may feel energized or still needing a bit more wintering and quiet.  Listen to your needs and take time to honor your personal energy especially during this transitional time.

I have been reflecting a-lot about community lately.  How community supports healing.  How to integrate community into ISH Membership.  How to support people feeling isolated.  The importance of community in healing.

Have a read and a listen and lean into community in your life.  (Make sure you "display all images" to access the videos and extras in your newsletter!)

In the spirit of a colorful, abundant and joyful life,
Lynn Joselyn PA-C, IFMCP, CFSP™ (she/her/hers)

Community, Connection, Passion

COMMUNITY AND HEALING

Communities are formed through shared physical locations, hobbies, interests or other commonalities. Communities embody involvement, connection, and togetherness. This feeling of fellowship with others can help provide a sense of purpose and belonging, and in turn, can have a positive effect on overall health and wellbeing.

THE BENEFITS OF BEING PART OF A COMMUNITY

  • Motivation – Inspiration to engage in your life.
  • Learning Opportunities – We all have different life experiences and knowledge, you can reach out to your community to ask questions and get support.
  • Make Friends – Being part of a community gives you the opportunity to meet and bond with like-hearted people.
  • Networking Opportunities – Whether you’re in need of a service or you have a service to offer, it is likely that your peers can make introductions for you.
  • Stress relief – Community events give you the chance to interact and have fun with others, which in turn, can relieve stress. Humans are social creatures by nature.

HEALTH BENEFITS OF BEING IN COMMUNITY

  • Improved physical and mental health
  • Decreased obesity and smoking
  • Connection increases longevity
  • Strong social ties are crucial to brain health
  • Social connection is a basic human need
  • Socializing can stimulate attention and memory
  • Social connection helps to strengthen  neural brain networks

I believe one of the missing links in our healing and medical spaces is community.  I am passionate about bringing this important element in to healing spaces in innovative ways.  At Integrated Spectrum of Health members have the opportunity to meet weekly for a group visit consisting of education, conversation and connection.  People heal quicker in community and it's ALOT more fun!

Simple ways to create connection

  • Start or join a walking group
  • Share a recipe, zoom a friend to cook together
  • Call a friend, sit in the sunshine and visit
  • Invite friends over to create something, color, collaging......
  • Talk to your neighbors
  • Notice others and the work they are doing and thank them for it

How do YOU create connection?
