Hello ,
After reflecting on 2025, I can see how much of last year was shaped by old patterns, where productivity equaled worth, urgency provided a false sense of control, and hustle was mistaken for purpose. While these patterns once supported me in moving forward and building momentum, they also pulled me away from presence, ease, and deeper attunement.
In the first week of 2026, I fell right back into those patterns, with one meaningful difference: awareness.
I practiced noticing my nervous system and checked in with my internal state. I led with curiosity about how urgency and hustle actually feel in my body. Instead of plowing forward in familiar ways, I made small, subtle shifts to tend to my nervous system through breath and visualization.
Old patterns and ways of being are often deeply grooved, so this kind of change takes time and practice. In truth, last week was still largely driven by old patterns AND, awareness offered me agency to choose differently, moment to moment.
My practice this year is to support my nervous system first, to continually begin again, and to gently cultivate presence, ease, and attunement.
What old pattern do you notice yourself falling back into lately, and how does awareness change the way you meet it?

Guided Imagery
What is it?
Guided imagery is the practice of intentionally imagining yourself in a calm, safe, or meaningful setting while engaging your senses; your breath, what you see, hear, and feel.
Why practice it?
Guided imagery helps relax the nervous system, reduce stress and pain, and build emotional resilience.
How does it work?
The brain responds to imagined experiences much like it does to real ones. The neural patterns created when you vividly imagine an experience closely resemble those formed when you actually live it. This means you can gently influence your emotions and your physiology by choosing what you “experience” for part of your day.
With practice, guided imagery becomes a way to shift challenging internal states, such as tension, worry, or fatigue into more grounded, calm, and productive ones.
It’s helpful to remember that this works both ways. Visualizing stressful situations can activate the same neural and chemical responses as living them, often keeping the body in fight-or-flight instead of calm presence.
Guided imagery and visualization are simple, powerful tools for supporting both mental and physical health. To learn more check out his handout from the Institute for Functional Medicine
