Hello ,

Fall is in the air!

Thanks to all who joined us for ISH Field trip to Animas Botanicals Herbal farm.  It was a beautiful day on sacred land, filled with ease, learning, and connection.

Brittany Osborn, a local herbalist and farmer, introduced us to the wide spectrum of herbal medicine. She reminded us that one of its simplest and most accessible forms is forest bathing: simply being in nature and spending time among plants.  Learn more about forest bathing and tips to incorporate into your daily life HERE or simply GO OUTSIDE, pause, notice and breath.

My biggest takeaway, among many, was to pay attention. Attend to your surroundings. Pause and notice.

This aligns beautifully with today’s newsletter theme: Root, the first System of Health. Throughout the fall, we will walk together through the 7 Systems of Health during our Group Visits and in these weekly emails.  I hope you join us, get to know the 7 system and simple ways to incorporate color into your life to create vitality!

Happy Labor Day, settle into ease and JOY,

~ Lynn 🌈

LEARNING

What Root Governs

Root is your foundation. It's tied to your adrenal glands, blood, and immune system, along with your bones, joints, skin, and muscles. Physiologically, it's the system behind things like your flight-or-fight response, enzyme activity, and how your body produces protein and expresses genes, all the background processes that keep you safe and functioning.

The core issues are safety, survival, and belonging. When we talk about Root, we're really talking about whether you feel grounded enough, and supported enough, to handle what life brings you.

The Color RED

Red carries a lot of meaning depending on context. It can signal energy, confidence, attraction, or motivation, and it can also signal threat, danger, or anger. Wearing red can project confidence; a red face can signal anger. Either way, red is the color that makes us stop and pay attention, which fits a system built around safety and alertness.

Red shows up in your body too, not just around you. A healthy, robust blood flow can give your skin a red glow. But redness can also mean inflammation. Same color, two very different signals, which is a nice reminder that Root is about reading your body's cues, not just following a rule.

What a balanced Root looks like

  • Belonging to a stable, supportive network of people

  • Feeling safe in your home environment

  • Trusting your own instincts around food choices

  • Feeling present and centered in your body

  • Well functioning immune system

  • Energy for daily activities

  • Balanced blood sugar

Try This week

Before one meal, pause for ten seconds. Feel your feet on the floor, and ask yourself what you actually want to eat, not what you think you should have. Then notice, after that meal, where you land between "ravenous" and "uncomfortably full."
